“You’re just hormonal.”That’s what they said.As if my anxiety, my rage, my sadness were simply inconveniences to be endured.

For too long, women’s mental health has been dismissed, misdiagnosed, or reduced to stereotypes.
We’re told to “push through” when we feel anxious. We’re handed pills when we’re depressed postpartum. We’re labeled “too sensitive” during perimenopause.
But what if the real issue isn’t us it’s the system that was never designed for our biology?
As a Black woman, mother, doctor, and advocate for holistic mental health, I’ve seen this truth up close:
👉🏽 Our bodies are wise.👉🏽 Our symptoms are messengers.👉🏽 Our healing must be integrative.
Here’s how I help women reclaim their mental wellness beyond the limits of traditional psychiatry:
🌿 Ecological medicine: Daily connection to nature isn’t a luxury it’s nervous system regulation.
🥦 Nutritional psychiatry: Depression and anxiety are often rooted in inflammation, gut imbalances, and hormonal shifts.
🧘🏽♀️ Mindfulness + breathwork: Practices that help us return to our bodies, process trauma, and restore balance.
💫 Psychedelic-assisted therapy: In safe, therapeutic settings, this is revolutionizing trauma recovery especially for women with deep emotional scars.🩺 Trauma-informed care: Recognizing that many women carry trauma in the body and healing must include the body.
This is personal. This is political. And this is possible.
We don’t need more shame. We need more support. Holistic mental health is not about rejecting Western medicine it’s about completing the story. For women.
For our daughters. For ourselves.
If you’ve ever felt unseen in a therapy room or misdiagnosed by a system that didn’t understand your story this is your space.
What has helped you reclaim your mental wellness, beyond the standard script?
Let’s create the conversation we’ve been waiting for.
